Adobe has made the latest versions of its Camera Raw plug-in and Lightroom software available as release candidates on the Adobe Labs website.

The ‘release candidate’ label indicates that these updates are well tested but would benefit from additional community testing before it is distributed automatically to customers.    The  Camera Raw 8.3 CC release candidate  includes four new features:
– Whites and Blacks now support Auto Levels-like functionality via shift-double-click on the sliders.
– Separate Auto Temperature and Auto Tint feature. Shift-double-click to invoke “auto temperature” and “auto tint” separately.
– Ability to option-click shortcut in Synchronise, New Preset, Save Settings, and Copy/Paste (Bridge) dialog boxes. Option-click a checkbox to check that box exclusively. Option-click again to toggle previous checkbox state.
– Set the background colour of the work area. Context-click outside the image in the work area to select a background colour from a popup menu.

These new features are absent in the Camera Raw 8.3 CS6 release candidate, which is released simultaneously at http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/cameraraw8-3.html. The DNG Converter 8.3 release candidate is included inside the Camera Raw 8.3 release candidate download.

Eighteen bug fixes have been applied in thePhotoshop Lightroom 5.3 release candidate. Details can be found at http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/lightroom5-3.html.

Both release candidates add support for15 new cameras and eight new lenses, details of which are available at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom5-3/?tabID=details#tabTop.
