Sydney’s Newport Arms Hotel is celebrating its 125th Anniversary with a photographic exhibition and competition titled “Reflections of Pittwater”.

 

March 4, 2005: Sydney’s Newport Arms Hotel is celebrating its 125th Anniversary with a photographic exhibition and competition titled “Reflections of Pittwater”.
The theme aims to capture the essence of the Pittwater area today and accumulate a collection of images for reference by future generations. Photographs submitted for the competition must have been taken within the geographical limitations of the area from Narrabeen to Palm Beach and from the coast to Ingleside and Church Point. Subjects should cover local characters, lifestyle and the environment.
The competition is split into two categories: ‘Landscapes of Pittwater area’ and ‘Characters of Pittwater Area’, with sub-categories covering an Open section (17+) and a Junior section (16 and under). More than $10,000 in cash and prizes is up for grabs in what will be one of The Northern Beaches most lucrative competition prize pools. The overall winner will be honoured with a copy of their photo being featured in a calendar of Pittwater sponsored by LJ Hooker Mona Vale. Other prizes include cash, Camera House Processing vouchers, Photo Review Australia magazine subscriptions, ManlyWarringahCommunity College course vouchers and custom-built trophies. In addition, ALL entrants will have the opportunity to win the “Nikon ALL Entrants Prize Draw” including a 6.1 Megapixel Nikon D70 Digital SLR Camera (Valued at $2300), just by showing up to the Awards Night on Thursday 5th May, starting at 7.00 pm.
Entries for the competition can be placed by hand or sent via mail to Newport Artworks, 341 Barrenjoey Rd, Newport. But be quick! All submissions must be received by 12 noon on April 27, 2005. Only 500 entries will be accepted and further submissions will be rejected when this limit is reached. All submissions will be displayed to the public at The Newport Arms during the exhibition, which runs from 5-29 May Winners will be announced at a special Finalists’ Night on Friday 27th May and finalists’ photos will be highlighted on the final weekend of the exhibition on May 28th and 29th. All entrants will be encouraged to submit their photo print from the event to Mona Vale Library Social Studies collection for archiving for future generations reference so that a snapshot of the Pittwater area for 2005 may be created.
