October 7, 2006: Winners have been announced in the Charles Sturt University’s Red Lens International Photographic Competition 2006.
The competition, which attracted more than 500 entries, was won by Melbourne based photographer, Brandon Hocking, who claimed first prize in the CSU Community Education Open Section with his ‘The Ivy League’ (Self Portrait Well-Hung, 2005). According to the photographer, the portrait was a captured moment that was part of a larger idea and derived from a scene from a short film that was never made. The judges were impressed with the overall standard of work and attributed this to the array of entries received from all over Australia, New Zealand and even North America.
ANZ Tertiary Section entrants were particularly praised for their efforts in capturing real world issues. Winners of the Red Lens 2006 competition are as follows:

Tertiary Section: Lisa Ray “Untitled”, Greensborough, Victoria.
Highly Commended: Marie Micallef – “Accordion Player”, Kensington, NSW.
Secondary Section: David Cartier “Aboriginal Art admired by Muslim lady at St Stephen’s Cathedral”, Brisbane, QLD.
Very Highly Commended: Ruby Carrodus “Making Faces 1” and “Making Faces 2”, St Kilda, VIC.
Youth Section: Sarah Bennett – “Still Life”, Junee, NSW
