Prices at a May auction for a small but prestigious selection of prints from photographers such as Max Dupain, Lewis Morley, Bill Henson, Olive Cotton and David Moore were higher than anticipated by Melbourne-based auctioneer Deutscher and Hackett.

Morley’s iconic shot of Christine Keeler (1963) sold for $33,600, smashing the previous record, and several others doubled estimated selling prices.
Pro photography website ProCounter interviews auctioneer Damian Hackett, who said he was ‘bombarded with interest’ for the photographs up for auction and is confident that demand will continue to increase for Australian photography, particularly more contemporary images.
