April 13, 2006: Phase One and Extensis have released product updates that enhance raw file processing.
Phase One’s new Capture One 3.7.4 is due for release on 20 April in Pro, LE and DB versions and will offer faster raw file processing and support for several recently-released cameras, including Canon’s EOS 30D, the full Pentax *ist series and Sony’s DSC-R1. The new version has been designed as a Universal Mac application that will run natively on both Intel and PowerPC-based Mac computers. Phase One claims it will process raw files 15% faster than previous versions on these machines, while providing ‘an enhanced capture rate and RAW processing speed’ with Windows PCs. Capture One 3.7.4 is available dree to existing users and can be downloaded from www.phaseone.com.
Extensis has added support for 22 new cameras and digital backs to its Portfolio 8 cataloguing application, including newer models from Canon, Leaf and Nikon. The upgrade comes as a plug-in, RAW Filter 3.0, which is available free to licensed Portfolio 8 users. Extensis has also released a plug-in MS Office file filter for Portfolio 8 that allows the Windows version of Portfolio to catalogue Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
