The new Mitakon Lens Turbo adapter is a focal length reducer, allowing camera bodies with smaller sensors to make use of the full image circle of lenses which was designed for full-frame sensors. This provides a one-stop increase in the light reaching the sensor across the aperture range, while reducing the focal length of the lens by 0.726x. Currently the crop factor of Nikon Z APS-C cameras is 1.52x, so a 15mm full-frame lens will have an angle of view equivalent to a 22.8mm lens when used on APS-C camera. With the Lens Turbo adapter, the angle of view will be reduced to 16.5mm.
The adapter barrel is built from coated metal and includes four optical elements, with one element made from ED glass. The overall weight is only 233 grams. The lens release tab has been improved from previous models, making it easier to use, but the adapter lacks electronic contacts and so requires manual operation. A ring on the adapter allows manual aperture control. The new Mitakon Lens Turbo Adapter Mark II is available for US$149 from the company’s official website and also through authorised resellers.
