The new 50mm lens is the first lens to provide a twice-life-size (2:1) maximum magnification ratio for M4/3 cameras. Covering an angle of view equivalent to 100mm in 35mm format, it also offers a minimum focusing distance of 13.5 cm, to ensure an adequate working distance. The optical design of this lens consists of 14 elements in 10 groups and includes three extra-low dispersion glasses and an apochromatic (APO) design to minimise chromatic aberrations across the frame. Measuring 79 mm in length and weighing only 240 grams, it can also focus to infinity. A built-in CPU chip and motor enables the aperture to be controlled via the camera body and ensures the lens data is directly recorded to EXIF. It also activates the camera’s focus magnifier automatically for easier focus control when the focus ring is rotated.
The 100mm equivalent focal length enables it to be used serve as a portrait lens and internal focusing maintains a constant lens length and allows angle-critical filters to be used. The lens is currently available to order in authorized resellers and in Venus Optics official website. The ex-VAT retail price in the US is US$399.
