Venus Optics has announced the immediate availability of the Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2X macro APO, the first Laowa macro lens designed for mirrorless cameras with APS-C sensors.

Unlike most macro lenses, which provide 1:1 magnification, the new Laowa lens offers up to 2:1 magnification (twice life size reproduction) along with a minimum focusing distance of 17cm. It also covers a field of view equivalent to 100mm in 35mm format. Weighing just 335 grams, it is available in Fujifilm X, Sony E and Canon EOS-M mounts. Internal focusing maintains a constant barrel length, which makes it easier to capture live insects and other small animals.
The optical design contains 14 elements in 10 groups and includes three extra-low dispersion glass elements to minimise chromatic aberrations across the frame. It has inherited the APO design from Laowa 100mm f/2.8 2X macro lens and has outperformed market offerings in suppressing chromatic aberration.
The lens is currently available to order from authorised resellers and then Venus Optics official website. It is priced at US$399 (pre-tax). Click here for more information.
