The new lens, which is scheduled for release in Spring 2023, is a further evolution of the popular first-generation model and maintains the class-leading compact size and weight while featuring the following improvements. Even with VC (Voice Coil driven) image stabilisation, the lens is just 156.6 mm long and weighs only 855 grams. The optical design has been revamped to provide a minimum focus of 30 cm at 70mm and 85 cm at 180mm while delivering high image quality across the entire zoom range. Tamron’s renowned VXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism ensures high-speed, high-precision auto-focusing while shooting stills or recording video, along with significant improvements to subject tracking. The new lens boasts moisture-resistant construction with a fluorine coating on the front element to repel moisture and grease. It also accepts 67 mm filters, the same size and most other Tamron lenses.

The new lens will be compatible with many camera-specific features and functions, including fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF. It also supports the proprietary Tamron Lens Utility and Tamron Lens Utility Mobile apps which can be used to customise functions based on various shooting styles for still photography and video.
