The Sony version of this lens was released in October 2020, claiming to be the smallest and lightest of its type with a weight of 545 grams and length of just 148 mm. It covers just over a four times zoom range from short to relatively long telephoto. We reviewed this lens in May 2021.

The news of its release in a ZA-mount version has been widely welcomed since it will provide an affordable telephoto option to owners of Nikon’s Z-mount cameras – including the cropped-sensor models. While Tamron has a long history of producing affordable telephoto lenses for DSLR cameras, this lens has been designed specifically for mirrorless cameras and has been popular with Sony photographers. The Nikon version is a little larger than the Sony original,  with a length of 150 mm and a weight of 581 grams.

UPDATE 6 September 2022: Local distributor, Blonde Robot has named 29 September as a tentative local release date for this lens, which will have an estimated RRP of AU$1299. The distributor cautions that this release date could change due to COVID-related supply chain issues.
