Featuring a constant maximum aperture of f/2.8 across the entire 4.1x zoom range, the new lens makes a great choice for photographers wanting a general-purpose lens for regular use. A key feature of this small and lightweight lens is its built-in VC Vibration Compensation) mechanism that is able to leverage AI technology when shooting video. This feature is available when the lens is used with cameras with or without in-body image stabilisation. The new lens also boasts Moisture-Resistant Construction, Fluorine Coating and a 67 mm filter size – the same as the Tamron series of lenses for full-frame mirrorless cameras. It is also compatible with many of the features that Sony builds into its cameras, including Fast Hybrid AF and Eye AF.
The Model B070 has a focal length range of 17-70mm, equivalent to 25.5-105mm on full-frame cameras. Its optical construction features 16 elements in 12 groups and includes two GM (Glass Molded Aspherical) lens elements and one hybrid aspherical lens element, which are precisely arranged to maintain high-resolution performance from edge to edge. Close focusing is supported to within 19 cm of subjects at 17mm or 39 cm at 70mm. The new lens measures only 119.3 mm in length and 74.6 mm in maximum diameter and weighs only 525 grams.
