The first wide angle zoom lens for Sony’s full-frame E-mount cameras it is ideal for both stills photography and video recording and features a constant f/4 maximum aperture covering ultra wide-angle to standard focal lengths. The optical design consists of 15 lens elements in 13 groups and includes three LD (Low Dispersion), a GM (Glass Moulded Aspherical) and two hybrid aspherical lens elements to suppress chromatic and other optical aberrations.
Claiming excellent optical performance across the entire zoom range, this lens also features Tamron’sVXD (Voice-coil eXtreme-torque Drive) linear motor focus mechanism, which is fast and near silent in operation. The physical length of the lens does not change while zooming and its minimum focus of 19 cm at 17mm and 30 cm at 50mm offers excellent close-range shooting, with outstanding bokeh at wide apertures. With moisture-resistant construction with a fluorine coating on the front element and weighing just 460 grams, it’s a great walkaround lens that is both portable and versatile. It accepts 67 mm diameter filters.
The dedicated Tamron Lens Utility software, which has just been updated to Version 2.0, makes it easy to update the lens to the latest firmware without going through the camera, and also includes functions to support focusing operations and other actions when shooting still images or video.
