Designed for photographers and videographers, the new lens can be used for subjects as diverse as landscapes, architecture, portraits and selfie-shooting. It features many of the characteristics of the FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G standard zoom lens announced February, including filter diameter, constant maximum aperture and compact size and weight. Its light weight of 409 grams and dimensions of 74.8 mm diameter and 91.4 mm length makes it ideal for use on the Alpha 7C R and Alpha 7C II compact full-frame camera bodies. The optical design is made up of 16 elements in 13 groups and includes three extra-low dispersion elements manage chromatic aberration and four aspherical elements (one being an Extra-low Dispersion aspherical element). An 11-bladed iris diaphragm creates a circular aperture which combines with optimised spherical aberration to produce the signature smooth bokeh of the G lens series.
Autofocusing is driven by two linear motors that are fast, accurate and quiet, even when capturing fast-moving subjects. The system also supports high-speed continuous shooting with AF/AE tracking at up to 120 fps, enabling it to be used with the Alpha 9 III full-frame mirrorless camera. Other features include a customisable focus hold button, aperture ring, aperture click ON/OFF switch and a focus mode switch. The FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G’s design is dust and moisture resistant, and includes a fluorine coating for preventing dirt from sticking to the front surface of the lens.
The new lens will be available in Australia from late April 2024 at an RRP of AU$2,199. Click here for full details.
