Next month will see the release of Sony’s ECM-G1 shotgun microphone, which is ideal for vloggers and is compatible with a wide range of devices, including cameras and smartphones.

Weighing only 34 grams and very compact (28 x 50.8 x 48.5 mm), it features a super-cardioid pick up pattern, which ensures clear sound collection from in front of the camera. It comes with a wind screen to reduce wind noise when shooting outdoors and has an optimised structure to suppress vibration noise with anti-vibration dampers. When connected to a Sony camera equipped with the Multi Interface (MI) shoe, the cableless design also eliminates cable-transmitted vibration noise. The MI shoe supplies power directly from the camera to the microphone eliminating issues with the battery running out or cables in the way – even when shooting with the vari-angle LCD monitor open horizontally.

The new ECM-G1 will be available in Australia from August 2022 at an RRP of AU$224.10.   A product video of the new microphone can be viewed here.
