Capable of delivering high image quality, the new lens is both compact and light in weight and features a dust and moisture resistant design, making it ideal for shooting landscapes, outdoor portraits and street photography and suitable for both stills and video. Measuring just 76 mm in diameter with a length of 96 mm the new lens weighs only 524 grams and accepts 67 mm diameter filters. Its optical design contains 14 elements in 10 groups and includes two XA (extreme aspherical) elements to suppress sagittal coma flare. An ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element minimises chromatic aberration and purple fringing, while the 11-blade iris diaphragm closes to produce a circular aperture. This feature combines with spherical aberration control at the design and manufacturing stages contribute to smooth, beautiful bokeh. The front lens element features a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants, making it easier to keep the lens clean.
The FE 35mm f/1.4 GM lens can focus to within 27 cm of subjects, providing a maximum magnification of 0.23x. Sony’s new Nano AR Coating II is evenly applied to all element surfaces to minimise flare and ghosting. XD Linear Motors contribute to fast, precise autofocus and tracking, maximising the AF performance, while a linear manual focus response makes precise manual focusing easy and effortless, aided by instant switching between auto and manual focus modes.
The new lens is supplied with front and rear caps, a lens hood (model ALC-SH164) and a soft case. It will be available in Australia from mid-February 2021 for SRP $2,449. Click here for full details.
