Panasonic has released details of the Leica DG Vario-Elmarit 12–35mm f/2.8 ASPH Power OIS, an update to the 2017 Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm f/2.8 II ASPH Power OIS lens.

The new lens has been designed to meet the strict quality standards set by Leica Camera AG and features a dust- splash- and freeze-resistant design. Its optical configuration uses 14 elements in nine groups and includes four aspherical elements, one UED element and one UHR element to minimise aberrations and maintain high resolution. Nano Surface Coating minimises ghosting and flare across the visual spectrum, further contributing to maintaining subject sharpness and contrast. Seven diaphragm blades produce a circular aperture for attractive bokeh. Built-in optical stabilisation is also provided to enable hand-held use in dim lighting.
This lens covers a focal range equivalent to 24-70mm in 35mm format, making it a useful general-purpose lens. The minimum aperture is f/22 and the lens will focus down to 15 cm at the 12-17mm focal length range or 25 cm at the 35mm position. It accepts 58 mm diameter screw-in filters, is 73.8 mm long with a maximum diameter of 67.6 mm and a weight of 306 grams (without the supplied caps and lens hood).
Local pricing has still to be determined but it has an MSRP of US$899. Shipping is expected to commence in January 2023. Click here for more information.
