This acquisition will incentivise Nikon to expand its offerings in the fast-growing professional digital cinema camera market, drawing on both companies’ expertise in product development. RED, which was established in 2005, currently has approximately 220 employees and is well-regarded for its industry-defining products like the original RED ONE 4K camera and the cutting-edge V-RAPTOR [X] with its proprietary RAW compression technology. Nikon brings know-how in image processing, as well as optical technology and user interface design, which will integrate with RED’s knowledge in cinema cameras, including unique image compression technology and colour science. The merged entities will enable the development of distinctive products in the professional digital cinema camera market.
