Nikon has released details of its latest prime lens, the Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.4, offering a modern take on a classic lens design that is compact enough to take anywhere and due for release late this month.

Ideal for travel and everyday photography and video recording, the new Nikkor Z 50mm f/1.4 lens weighs only 420 grams and is just 86.5 mm long. Its wide f/1.4 maximum aperture makes it ideal for shooting in dim lighting and also for creating a shallow depth of field with soft and attractive bokeh, thanks in part to the nine-bladed iris diaphragm. The optical design of the lens consists of 10 elements in seven groups and includes one aspherical element to address common aberrations. Autofocusing is driven internally by a stepping motor that is smooth and quiet with minimal focus breathing. The lens is also weather-sealed and engineered for comfortable handling, with a dedicated focus ring and customisable control ring.
The lens is available to pre-order at an RRP of AU$929. Click here for more information.
