Featuring a rugged dust/splash-resistant design, the new lens will serve as a ‘workhorse’ for professionals, thanks to its ability cover subjects as diverse as landscapes, events, products, fashion and portraits. The optical design comprises 18 lenses in 16 groups, and includes three aspherical lenses and four ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements which combine to correct both axial chromatic aberration and chromatic aberration of magnification as well as astigmatism. A UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index) lens achieves uniform image quality across the image frame and helps keep the lens compact and light in weight.

The constant, f/2.8 maximum aperture ensures impressive low-light performance and the ability to isolate subjects from their backgrounds. A double focus system combines a linear motor with a stepping motor to match the sensor drive of the S-series cameras, which has a maximum speed of 480 fps for fast, high-precision AF. A focus clutch mechanism enables instant AF/MF switching and linear manual focusing, while a special mechanism suppresses focus breathing, making this lens ideal for video shooting.

The filter diameter of the lens is 82 mm, with an 11-blade iris diaphragm that closes to a circular aperture. The S-E2470 will be available in Australia in October 2019 from photographic specialists and consumer electronics retailers at an RRP of AU$3599. Click here for further information.
