Adobe is releasing new versions of Photoshop and Firefly bringing new image generation tools to its Creative Cloud and Adobe Express applications.

The next generation of Photoshop will add Reference Image to the existing Generative Fill function, powered by the new Adobe Firefly Image 3 Foundation Model, which delivers higher-quality image generations, better understanding of prompts, new levels of detail and variety, and significant improvements that enable fast creative expression. The Reference Image tool lets users direct the way the software generates images by uploading a reference image. For example, to date, generative AI tools have almost always performed very poorly when asked to insert a person into a picture. Providing a reference image gives the software a much better representation of what the user requires and should save a lot of time for content creators. Users will be able to create photorealistic quality additions to images with better lighting, positioning, attention to detail and advancements in text display.

Another new feature added to the Generative Fill function is Generate Background, which makes it easy to replace backgrounds with new content with a single click. You simply select the background area you want to replace and prompt the software to insert new content. Generate Similar is another variation of this tool, which allows users to upload an image and prompt the software to generate similar images.

Other new additions to Photoshop include Adjustment Brush, which lets users apply editable adjustments to selected areas in images in a similar way to existing functions in Lightroom and Adobe Camera Raw. Enhance Detail enables users to fine-tune the sharpness and clarity of images and users can create and save their own customised Adjustment Presets for future use. In addition, an improved Font Browser provides quicker access to more than 25,000 of Adobe’s fonts in the cloud without having to leave Photoshop.

A new addition to InDesign is Text to Image (beta), which is designed to speed up everyday print and digital publishing workflows, enabling users to create content in seconds. New capabilities in the latest edition of Adobe’s Creative Cloud for Enterprise include Object Composites which empower creative teams to seamlessly blend products and objects into high quality generative scenes in seconds and Style Kits which help teams create templates for Firefly prompts, reference assets, common libraries and more to scale consistent generative AI content across the enterprise.
Adobe has also released Adobe released AI Assistant for Reader and Acrobat, adding generative AI for consumption and creation to Reader and Acrobat workflows, making it easier to generate summaries, answer questions and format information for distribution. Also new is the next generation of the Frame.io creative collaboration platform, which streamlines and simplifies workflows across content creation and production.
