Featuring a different optical design from the mirrorless version, it is currently the world’s only f/0.95 lens designed for DSLR cameras. A Nikon version cannot be produced because of the large size of the rear element. The optical design comprises 12 elements in six groups with one HRI (High Refractive Index) and five UD (Ultra-low dispersion) elements to minimise chromatic aberrations and deliver high image quality. The ultra-fast f/0.95 maximum aperture makes this lens ideal for use in low-light conditions, while its shallow depth of focus makes selective focus effects easy to obtain for isolating subjects from the background. An eleven-blade diaphragm ensures soft and attractive bokeh. The lens has a metal barrel to ensure durability plus an 82mm filter thread.
The angle of view of the new lens is 45 degrees and it can focus to within 65 cm. It is 122 mm long and has an 89 mm diameter plus an overall weight of 1.5 kg.
ZY Optics has already released 50mm f/0.95 for mirrorless cameras with Sony FE, Canon RF and Nikon Z mounts in 2019. The Mitakon Speedmaster 50mm f/0.95 for Canon EF is available now at ZY Optics official website. The listed US price is $799 ex tax.
