Equipped with a 7.4 x 5.6 mm sensor and encompassing a super-wide 150-degree field of view with a fast f/2.8 lens, the Osmo Action 3 includes an improved heat management system that supports continuous 4K 60/50 fps recording until the battery runs out of power. Users can also opt for 120/100 fps high-speed recording of 4K 16:9 or 1080p, 2.7K 16:9 video for slow-motion playback. The new camera has a built-in mounting system can be securely clipped onto handlebars, helmets and other platforms, which features the quick-release system first seen in Action 2.  Notches have been added for a locked-in, impact-resistant hold and a new Horizontal-Vertical Protective Frame enables quick switching to a vertical orientation for social media platforms.

The camera also features three electronic image stabilisation options:

  • RockSteady 3.0 for correcting camera shake in all directions.
  • HorizonSteady, which adds horizontal correction of tilt at any angle to ensure footage remains horizontally level.
  • HorizonBalancing corrects the tilt horizontally within +/-45 degrees provides a middle ground between RockSteady and HorizonSteady to ensure a smooth 4K picture in a dynamic environment.

The camera also includes a D-Cinelike colour mode, which is available in video, slow-motion, and time-lapse modes for users wanting more room to edit in post-production. The Osmo Action 3 is waterproof at depths of up to 16 meters without needing any additional housing. It is also the first action camera with dual touchscreens. Three-mic stereo recording reduces wind noise and boosts the audio quality of the footage. Wi-Fi Livestream supports 1080p/30fps, 720p/30fps and 480p/30fps, and pausing recording during the stream. UAC/UVC Webcam support offers high-quality video and audio for conference calls and live streaming. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth provide connections to smartphones via the DJI Mimo app, while the LightCut video editor app has been optimised to support the new camera.
