Total production of cameras was up by 106.3% in volume and 114.9% in value, compared with the previous year while shipments increased by 110% and 115.5%, respectively. As expected, mirrorless cameras continued to dominate the market, rising to 116.1%, of total shipments in volume and 116.4% in value. Shipments to China continued strong, with a 124.5% year-on-year growth in volume and 127.7% growth in value. Shipments to other areas, including Japan, however, remained relatively steady, with only a slight rise in shipping volumes and values.
DSLR volumes continued to decline, while prices appeared to be slipping. This sector accounted for 85.6% of the interchangeable-lens camera market by volume and 83.6% by value. The greatest declines occurred in the Chinese and ‘other’ markets (which includes Australia and New Zealand).
