Its versatile 28mm focal length and fast f/2.8 maximum aperture make it suitable for a number of shooting scenarios, including low-light shooting as well as differential focusing. The combined control and focus ring enables users to easily adjust settings and quickly switch to manual focus if required, with the stepping motor drive ensuring smooth and quiet autofocusing when shooting stills and videos. Focus breathing correction automatically compensates for any changes in angle of view that might occur when focus is changed during shooting.
The optical design contains eight elements in six groups and includes three high-precision plastic moulded aspherical elements, which are positioned to achieve optimal rendering capability and compactness while also keeping the number of elements to a minimum. The lens is supplied with front and rear end caps but the EW-55 lens hood is an optional accessory, as is the LP811 lens pouch.
The RF 28mm f/2.8 STM will be priced at an RRP of $549. Local availability is still to be confirmed.
