Canon’s latest RF lens, the RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 is a compact, entry-level telephoto zoom for EOS R System cameras, which has a light weight of 507 grams and is 146.1 mm long.

Designed primarily for photographers who want more reach at higher image quality than their smartphones or point-and-shoot vlogging camera can provide, the new lens has an optical configuration of 13 elements in nine groups and a minimum focus of 1.5 metres. Super Spectra Coating has been applied to suppress flare and boost contrast, while a seven-blade iris diaphragm creates natural-looking bokeh. Autofocusing is driven by a DC motor, which appears to be a new design that has not been used previously. This lens is not stabilized so it is best paired with a camera that has IBIS. When paired with EOS R System cameras, Canon’s Dual Pixel CMOS AF system enables accurate subject detection and tracking across the frame. As is usual with entry-level lenses, the lens hood (ET-60) is an optional extra.
The lens will be available in Australia at an RRP of AU$399 from May 2025 at authorised Canon Australia resellers. Click here to visit the product page for the RF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lens.
