According to Canon Rumors – which published the information on 15 February – the new Canon PowerShot V1 features a 24-megapixel 1.4-inch CMOS sensor with a 3:2 aspect ratio, which has a surface area roughly the same as a Micro Four Thirds chip. The sensor will be paired with a DIGIC X Series processor and will support Dual Pixel CMOS AF II for PowerShot with eye detection for both humans and animals (dogs and cats). The built-in lens covers a zoom range of 16-50mm f/2.8-3.5 for stills or 17-52mm for video (both 35mm equivalent). Designed primarily for vlogging the PowerShot V1 has no viewfinder but comes with a vari-angle touchscreen monitor plus headphone and microphone sockets. It can record 5.7K video oversampled for 4K/30p video output at full frame width as well as 4K cropped video at 60p. The provision of 10-bit Canon Log 3 support is available for recording with an extended dynamic range, while the camera includes a built-in cooling fan to manage heat and extend recording times.

The Canon Rumors report says the mechanical shutter can support frame rates of up to 15 fps, while the electronic shutter will take that further allowing up to 30 fps. The sensor will output 14-bit RAW files with the mechanical shutter or 12-bit when using the electronic shutter.

The camera weighs approximately 426 grams and is listed on Canon’s Japan site for 148,500 yen. It is also listed in China for 5999 Yuan. It will be released initially in Japan, China, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan, starting in late April 2025.
