Canon has unveiled two compact and lightweight lenses – the RF 16mm f/2.8 STM and RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM – which will be added to the growing EOS R line-up.

Weighing only 165 grams and just 40.2 mm in length when retracted, the RF 16mm f/2.8 STM’s 110-degree angle of view is well suited to vlogging as well as for shooting landscapes, group photos, environmental portraits and architecture. Its wide f/2.8 maximum aperture makes it also ideal for low-light use in genres like astrophotography and for high shutter speed photography. The wide f/2.8 maximum aperture provides scope for differential focusing, while the STM focusing motor allows smooth, near silent focusing during video recording. The minimum focusing distance of 13 cm provides scope for creative compositions when shooting from close range. This lens can also be used on cameras with an APS-C crop mode, where it will cover an angle of view equivalent to 25.6mm in 35mm format. The lens is supplied with front and end caps but the EW-65C lens hood is an optional extra.

Ideal for sports and wildlife photography, the RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM lens has a minimum focusing distance of 88 cm and a maximum magnification of 0.41x at 400mm. Designed for speed and precision its Nano USM focus motor ensures smooth, fast focus while the lens control ring, gives users enhanced control over Av, Tv, exposure and ISO settings. In-lens optical image stabilisation achieves 5.5 stops of shake correction, which increases to six stops when coordinated control is used with cameras that include IBIS. The RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM lens is 164.7 mm long without the inner barrel extended and weighs only 635 grams.  It is compatible with Canon’s RF 1.4x and RF 2x extenders and comes with front and end caps. The ET-74B lens hood is an optional accessory.

Local pricing and availability for the RF 16mm f/2.8 STM and RF 100-400mm f/5.6-8 IS USM lenses have still to be confirmed but the US prices will be US$299 and US$649, respectively.  Both lenses will be available in October.
