The new camera will combine Canon’s cutting-edge technology with top-class performance plus durability and high reliability to meet the needs of photographers working in fields like sports, news reporting, and video production. Key features of the new camera will be the newly-developed DIGIC Accelerator addition to the existing DIGIC X processor, along with a new CMOS sensor, details of which have yet to be revealed but rumours suggest a 30-megapixel stacked CMOS chip with a dual gain design. Together they will enable a large volume of data to be processed at high speeds (up to 120 fps continuous shooting is suggested) and deliver significant advancements in Auto Focus (AF) and other functions. The combination of the new image processing system and deep learning technology will further improve image quality in combination with an enhanced image noise reduction function, which was previously developed and improved as part of the software for PCs and is now incorporated as a camera function.
Canon is working on field tests for this camera, and will support capturing definitive and impactful moments at international sporting events to be held in the future. Photographers who wish to register their interest and keep updated on the EOS R1 can sign up here.
