Kodak’s new EasyShare Printer Dock Plus can produce snapshot prints of pictures taken by camera phones and will handle images that are transmitted wirelessly from mobile phone cameras using an infrared (IrDA) or Bluetooth connection.

 

August 17, 2004: Kodak’s new EasyShare Printer Dock Plus can produce snapshot prints of pictures taken by camera phones and will handle images that are transmitted wirelessly from mobile phone cameras using an infrared (IrDA) or Bluetooth connection.
The new Printer Dock Plus also allows prints to be made directly from digital cameras and memory cards without the need for a computer. It is equipped with a built-in SD/MMC memory card slot and an optional external 8-in-1 memory card reader can be used for other card formats. A dedicated multi-function docking connector is provided for Kodak EasyShare 600/6000 and 700/7000-series digital cameras, while PictBridge support allows cameras from other manufacturers to be used for direct printing when connected via a USB cable.

Using the Printer Dock Plus, waterproof pictures can be printed at home with just a touch of a button, in as little as 60 seconds each and Kodak’s Color Science technology produces prints with accurate colours. A new auto enhance button lets users correct underexposed (dark) shots, a common occurrence in low-light situations with camera phones and when using digital cameras beyond their flash ranges. Users can print one, two, four or nine images on each 4×6-inch sheet, which is ideal for both high-resolution digital camera and lower-resolution camera phone images. The Printer Dock Plus can be connected to a computer to print pictures stored on a hard drive or linked to a TV set to allow pictures on a connected card or camera to be displayed. An optional remote control lets users navigate and print from a distance.

Kodak has also launched a new initiative, Kodak Picture Centre Online (KPCO), to help camera phone users to share their pictures. Pictures from mobile phones can be uploaded directly into albums which can be customised by the picture-taker. Users can arrange pictures in any order the wish, review albums and keep the pictures they want, choose which friends can access which albums and order prints through the Print@Kodak network. Camera phone users can also now order prints from any Kodak picture maker kiosk in a wide range of retail outlets around Australia. The self-service installations are fully interactive and include key image enhancement facilities such as zoom, crop, adjust brightness and correct red-eye controls. All kiosks accept every popular camera memory card plus images on CD and floppy disk. They are also IrDA and Bluetooth equipped for direct printing from camera phones. Camera phone owners can order two, four or nine prints per sheet or single image prints from camera phones with megapixel resolutions. Prints are delivered in an average of 11 seconds per print.
