April 6, 2007: DES is hosting a special training course that takes participants through the process of designing a printed book from digital image files.
Presented by renowned expert, Eric T. Kunsman, a photographer and book artist currently teaching at the Rochester Institute of Technology, New York, this two-day course is a one-off chance for creative professionals to learn the skills they need to create their own limited edition digital inkjet books. With years of teaching experience Kunsman aims to deliver something that is currently unparalleled in Australia. The course caters for all skill levels and allows photographers to experiment with new possibilities and have hands-on experience with new technologies in digital printing.
Participants will be required to bring a minimum of 15 digital files on CD or hard drive and 6 x 4-inch printed copy of each image that will be used in the book creation. Adobe’s Photoshop and InDesign software will be used to design the books. Participants will receive an A3 Pack of Innova Double Sided Smooth Cotton or Softex paper and all the other materials required to produce the book. The workshops will be fully catered.
The first day will be devoted to page layout, imposition and the usage of text, while the second day will be spent printing and binding the books. A range of binding options will be discussed. Workshops will be held at RMIT in Melbourne on 8 and 9 May and at Lane Cove in Sydney on 11 and 12 May. Fee for the workshop is $595 plus GST.
