January 24, 2006: Two interesting displays of photographs are on show at Sydney’s Customs House at Circular Quay.
Portrait of a City: Through the Eyes of Marco Bok is a solo photographic exhibition by Sydney street photographer, Marco Bok. Consisting of 29 black and white images, from streetscapes to portraits from the CBD, inner city suburbs and Bondi Beach, the display covers many different facets of Sydney. Bok’s ability to immerse himself in the present, expect the unexpected and show the uncommon as common form the essence of the exhibition. The prints are on display until 28 February.
Memory Lane – Recollecting Rowe Street is a new exhibition that opens late in January and runs until June. Drawn from the collection of the Rowe Street Society, this exhibition presents images from a street that is fondly remembered for its fashionable stores and vibrant life. The street was active with a range of artistic activity ranging from galleries, bookshops, interior design, fashionable boutiques and coffee shops where the communities of Rowe Street congregated. The display takes the form of personal recollections, photographs and objects retelling the social significance of the street with a focus on the activity of the 1950s.
