July 30, 2008: “The Island of the Ancients”, an exhibition of photographs of Sardinia’s centenarians by Mayu Kanamori, opens at Customs House in Sydney on 14 August.
The exhibition coincides with the release of the book, “The Islands of the Ancients” by Ben Hills. In 2007 photographer Mayu Kanamori and writer Ben Hills travelled to the small island of Sardinia in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea to record the secrets of the oldest living people in the world. Mayu’s sensitive and beautiful photographs of these ‘anziani’ are the results of this trip. The book The Island of the Ancients by Ben Hills records the stories of the people in the photographs.
The exhibition runs until 28 September at Level 2, Customs House, 31 Alfred Street, Circular Quay. It is open from 10 am to 7 pm on weekdays and 11 am to 4 pm on weekends. Artist talks will be held on Saturday, 23 August and Sunday, 6 September at 2 pm. For more information, phone (02) 9242 8551.
