These two prize-based exhibitions will be on display as part of the Ballarat International Foto Biennale in August. They present an exceptional opportunity for photo media artists to showcase their talent and have their work viewed at one of the most popular and highly attended photographic events in Australia. The Martin Kantor Portrait Prize is open to all photographers and photo media artists and now in its fifth and final year. The acquisitive first prize of $15,000 AUD is awarded to an exceptional portrait of a significant Australian recognised within their field of art, letters, science, sport or politics. Click here for information on submitting images to this award.

The Prompted Peculiar International AI Prize returns in 2025 following its groundbreaking debut in 2023. This global competition pushes the boundaries of AI-generated imagery, inviting artists, designers and innovators to explore the creative potential of artificial intelligence through text-based prompts.  As AI continues to reshape visual culture, Prompted Peculiar provides a platform to question, critique, and celebrate this evolving art form. Is it photography? Is it art? Where does ‘promptography’ belong? Information relating to this prize can be found here.

Entries to this year’s Open Program have already closed.  It provides a unique opportunity to be a part of Australia’s leading photography festival for photographers and photo media artists. There is a $2,000 Judges’ Prize judged by a panel of leaders and creative industry professionals, and a public-voted $500 People’s Choice Award for this year’s Open Program.

The Ballarat International Foto Biennale will run from 23 August to 19 October 2025.
