Sony has announced the Australian and New Zealand winners of the eighth annual Sony Alpha Awards, which are open to photographers, from enthusiast to professional level.

The winning images were selected from more than 2,900 submissions from professional and amateur photographers. Winners were announced at the Alpha Awards Gallery in Sydney on Friday 8 September 2023. Winners of the individual categories are as follows:

  • Astrophotography: Brent Martin, with Red Rock Racer;
  • City/Street: Ian Semmens, with Southbank Pedestrian;
  • Creative: Grant Galbraith, with Martin Space;
  • Editorial: Matt Hrkac, with Freedom for Iran;
  • Landscape: Darren Wassell, with Morning Glory;
  • Nature: Lewis Burnett, with Aliens Exist;
  • Portrait: Benizi Santamaria, with Time Out;
  • Seascape: Simon Pannell, with Floating;
  • Sport: Jay Town, with Aryna Sabalenka, and
  • Wedding: Lucy McGoldrick, with Reflections.

Winners of each category will each receive 4,000 of Sony digital imaging gear, while the Grand Prize Winner, Lewis Burnett, will get $10,000 worth of Sony camera gear. The winning images can be viewed here.
