The major prize winners of the My RØDE Reel 2019 international short film competition have been announced.
Winner of the Judges’ Film category was ‘Good Boy’ by Ben Leonberg of the USA for a ‘frightful flick’ about man’s best friend with some classic jump scares and adorable acting.
The People’s Choice winner was AJ [Film Ferry} of India for ‘Spirit of Kerala’, which brings together emotion, rhythm, culture and celebration in a movie that showcases river boat racing in Kerala, India.
Australian film maker, Tess Emmerson took out the Best Female filmmaker award for ‘I Don’t Speak’, a thought-provoking piece about the reflections of a woman in silence.
The best Behind-the-Scenes Educational movie was ‘Studio Tour in 360 VR’ by Australian film maker, Can Shand. Also in the Behind-the-Scenes class, French film maker, Mathieu Jonckheere was names winner of the BTS Entertaining category, with ‘GOOD CITIZEN’, an original and charming take on the traditional BTS with a humorous emphasis on the ‘magic’ of cinema.
Winner of the Young Filmmaker category was James Walker of Australia for ‘Pollution’ a powerful and emotional piece that demands action on the big issues.
