Professional, amateur and student photographers are invited to submit their entries to the 2024 Sony World Photography Awards, which have now opened.

Now in its 17th year, the Awards are free to enter and offer prizes that include a Sony digital imaging kit, US$25,000 in cash prizes, inclusion in the annual exhibition in Central London as well as in the 2024 book plus flights to London for the winners to attend the Awards ceremony. The competition is split into Professional, Open, Youth and Student categories with sub-categories covering special genres like Architecture & Design, Portraiture, Landscape, Lifestyle, Street Photography, ravel and Natural World & Wildlife.

Photographers planning to enter the Creative sections of the competition should take note of the controversy created by the AI-generated image submitted by German Photographer, Boris Eldagsen for the 2023 competition. Although the current instructions make no mention of  AI-generated images, it can be argued that they are not, in  fact, photographs and so would not be eligible for entry into this competition, even though they may appear ‘photographic’.

The Student competition closes on 30 November 2023 at 13:00 (GMT); the Youth  and Open competitions close on 5 January 2024 at13:00 (GMT) and the Professional competition (including Latin America Professional Award and Sustainability Prize) closes on 12 January 2024 at 13:00 (GMT).
