Birdlife Australia is seeking entries for its annual Photography Awards, which this year has a special theme: Land of the Parrots.

The Photography Awards are a collaboration between BirdLife Australia and one of its special interest groups, BirdLife Photography, which aims to inspire and support photographers of Australian birds. This year’s special theme, Land of the Parrots, celebrates Australia’s charismatic and colourful lorikeet and parrot species. Photos entered into this category must contain one or more parrot or lorikeet (but not cockatoo!) species. You can find a full list of eligible species and entry details here.  This year’s competition is divided into the following categories: Bird Portrait, Birds in Flight, Bird Behaviour, Backyard Birds, Human Impact, Birds in the Landscape and Youth, a special category for photographers under the age of 18. A Portfolio Prize will be awarded for a compilation of Australian bird photos, each connected in theme, location or subject matter that tells a compelling story.

Intending participants have until August 5 to enter, but if you enter before July 5 you’ll be eligible for an early bird discount. To enter the competition, you’ll need to log in or create a BirdLife Australia account.
