Entries have opened for the 2022 World Press Photo Contest for professional photographers working in the field of photojournalism and/or documentary photography.

This popular global competition gives successful competitors a chance to win €1,000 as a regional winner and an additional €5,000 as a global winner. They will also have their work showcased to a global audience through the annual World Press Photo Exhibition, which travels to more than 80 countries and boasts a global media outreach plus exposure on social channels with more than 2 million followers. This year entrants can submit their work to four format-based categories: Singles, Stories, Long-Term Projects and Open Format. Together they encompass all thematic categories from previous contests – such as general news, spot news, contemporary issues, environment, nature, sports and portraits. Entries may be submitted to the appropriate format-based category, covering a wide range of themes.

Judging will be on a regional basis, with each region selecting a collection of entries per category will be chosen by the regional jury. The final selection will be based upon the regional winners and chosen by a global jury drawn from the six regional jury chairs and one additional member. All information on the new judging process can be found here.

Entries will close on 11 January 2022 at 12:00 noon CET, with regional winners being announced on 24 March and global winners on 7 April. Click here for full details of the 2022 contest.
