Entries have opened for the annual Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition and will close on Friday 5 February 2021.

Run in collaboration with the South Australian Museum, the competition is now in its 18th year and operates across nine categories: Animal Behaviour, Animal Habitat, Animal Portrait, Botanical, Landscape, Monochrome, Our Impact, Threatened Species and Junior for photographers under 18 years. All photographs entered must have been taken in the ANZANG bioregion of Australia, New Zealand, Antarctica and New Guinea.

A panel of three judges will select a shortlist of images for inclusion in the exhibition and award prizes. The overall winner will receive $10,000 cash plus a holiday prize provided by Coral Expeditions. The winner and runner up of each category win $1000 and $500 respectively, with $300 and $100 for the winner and runner up of the Junior category. There is also a portfolio prize of $1000. Winners will be announced on Thursday 26 August 2021 when the exhibition of finalists and exhibition catalogue are launched at the South Australian Museum.
