The winners were selected from more than 1600 submissions received from across Australia. An anonymous judging process chose 40 finalists, from which the four strongest photography and videography entries across two categories, Faces and Places, were selected. James Malone won the Photo Faces category for ‘No Face, only a dark place’ while Ryan Cantwell took out the Photo Places category with ‘Close Comfort, Distant Trouble’. In the Video category, Jonathan McIntyre obtained first place in Video Faces for ‘Faces Just Appreciate’ and Ryan Andrew-Lee won the Video Places prize for ‘Wonnarua’. Each winner receives $6,000 to spend across SunStudios’ creative services, a customisable prize designed to support their next project.
All winners and finalists’ works will be featured in a SunStudios online exhibition. Community voting begins today on the same website for the competition’s inaugural People’s Choice awards, with voting closing on 15 November, 2021. Winners for this category will be announced 17 November, 2021 and will each receive $500 in SunStudios’ services.
