The 2020 Photo Contest and Digital Storytelling Contest have opened for entries on 2 December 2019 and entries are open to all professional visual journalists.
The 2020 Contests’ major awards comprise the World Press Photo of the Year and the World Press Photo Story of the Year for the Photo Contest, along with the World Press Photo Interactive of the Year and the World Press Photo Online Video of the Year for the Digital Storytelling Contest. These awards carry a cash prize of €10,000 each. Entry is free of charge and there are a number of different categories to highlight diverse ‘stories’. Winners also have an unrivalled chance to showcase their work to a global audience.
The contest entries are judged independently by a jury of visual storytelling professionals, which will be announced soon. Zoeann Murphy, visual journalist at The Washington Post, will chair the 2020 Digital Storytelling Contest Jury, and Lekgetho Makola, head of Market Photo Workshop, will chair the 2020 Photo Contest Jury.
Entrants must present a valid document that proves their current professional status. Pictures can be submitted whether or not they have been published. Photographers planning to submit entries have until 9 January, 2020, 12.00 (noon) Central European Time to request a username and password to the entry website. All submissions must be presented by 14 January, 2020.
