Entry fees for this year’s competition went towards supporting BirdLife Australia’s Preventing Extinctions Grey Range Thick-billed Grasswren project to help bring this critically endangered bird back from the brink. Claire Greenwell will receive a $5,000 cash prize from major sponsor Nikon Australia, while the other eight category winners will take home a share in $8,000 of prize money sponsored by Lake Cowal Foundation and Nikon Australia. Winning entries and those that have been shortlisted can be viewed on the official Awards website.
The Guardian’s People’s Choice will return next month to give members of the public a chance to vote for their favourite photo. The 2021 Awards will open again mid-year with a new special theme: Plovers!
