The Ballarat International Foto Biennale has combined with Australia’s longest running Eisteddfod, Ballarat’s Royal South Street Society to establish a new photography prize for performance photography titled Take a Bow.
Photographers who wish to enter the contest can submit up to three images each depicting performance. Take a Bow features a Youth section and an Open section. Prizes include Canon photographic equipment [youth] and $1500 cash [open].
Shortlist judges are BIFB Board member Heidi Romano, South Street Marketing Manager Emma Sbardella and photography portfolio consultant Sally Brownbill, who will select 36 images from the open section and 32 images from the youth section for the finalist exhibition. The winning images will be chosen by renowned theatre, dance and performance photographer, Jeff Busby.

Take a Bowwill culminate with a 9 day exhibition of all the finalist images at the Ballarat Mechanics Institute from Saturday October 20th to Sunday October 28th 2012. Along with the finalist print exhibitions will be shows of performance photography by Jeff Busby, Ponch Hawkes and Ben Searcy, and weekend demonstrations of how to photograph performance by Lawrence Winder.
