The X-5 comes with a 12/2.3-inch (6.17 x 4.55 mm ) back-illuminated CMOS sensor that has an effective resolution of 16 megapixels and supports a top sensitivity of ISO 6400. Three aspect ratios (4:3, 16:9 and 1:1) are available for image capture and the camera is compatible with Eye-Fi wireless LAN SD memory cards.

The image processor includes the latest Super Resolution technology and enables the new camera to offer Full HD movie recording using the efficient (and widely supported) H-264 recording format along with creative movie playback features, such as High-speed Movie mode for slow-motion playback and Time-lapse Movie mode at VGA resolution. A micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) is also provided on the camera body for the output of recorded movies and sound to external devices.

A prominent mode dial provides quick access to 10 shooting modes including Auto Picture, Scene, Program, Manual, Landscape and Handheld Night Snap. A Handheld Night Scene shooting mode is also included, taking advantage of multi-frame capture and the camera’s dual shake reduction system, which couples the Pentax-developed sensor-shift type SR (Shake Reduction) mechanism with a digital SR mode.
The X-5 features an electronic viewfinder with dioptre adjustment. It also supports remote control via an optional remote controller. High-speed burst shooting is available for up to 10 images/second, for a maximum of 30 images in a single sequence. Twelve digital filters are provided, including Miniature and Toy Camera and users can apply a variety of creative image-processing effects, such as Stretch filter, Small Face filter and Collage function.

The Pentax X-5 will be available from October in black and silver from leading camera retailers nationwide at an RRP of AU$299.  For more information, contact Pentax’s Australian distributor, C.R. Kennedy on (03) 9823 1555 or visit www.pentax.com.au
