September 21, 2005: Pentax has announced two new 6 megapixel cameras: the OptioS6 and OptioWPi. The OptioWPi is a compact digital camera with waterproof performance and a 3X optical zoom lens. The slim OptioS6 has a 3X optical zoom lens and a 2.5-inch LCD.
The OptioWPi has a 2.0-inch LCD monitor and can be used for marine sports, scuba diving and skiing. It complies with JIS 8 waterproof performance, enabling it to withstand up to 30 minutes of continuous operation at an underwater depth of 1.5 metres. The OptioWPi also conforms to Class 5 dustproof performance of category 2 (machines produced to prevent internal changes in atmospheric pressure).
The OptioWPi’s slim, flat body boasts a depth of just 2.2cm, and also has a high-quality aluminium alloy for the front panel and a four-way control key.

The even slimmer (19mm) OptioS6 features the PENTAX Sliding Lens System, glass-moulded aspherical lenses which are concave on both sides and a thinner CCD. The OptioS6 incorporates a 2.5-inch LCD monitor that offers the clarity of 232,000 total pixels. The monitor has a built-in backlighting mechanism for clearer vision in bright conditions.

The OptioWPi has a 1/2.5-inch primary color CCD, an smc Pentax lens that that claims minimized ghosting and flare, a high-performance ASIC for refined image processing, improved noise reduction to deliver true-to-life color gradation and rich texture, even at high sensitivities.

Both cameras are expected to be available by the end of September. For more details see www.crkennedy.com.au.
