The Pentax K-30, which was unveiled in late May, is now on sale in Australia at an RRP of $899 for the camera plus 18-55mm kit lens.
The new camera will be offered in three colours: classic black, crystal white and crystal blue. Designed as an entry-level DSLR, the K-30 features a compact, lightweight body with weatherproof-sealing and a 16-megapixel APS-C CMOS sensor and PRIME M image processing engine. The Advanced SAFOX IXi+ autofocus module can take account of different lens characteristics to ensure, fast and accurate focusing. Nine of its 11 sensor points have cross-type sensors, while its spotbeam projector provides illumination in poorly lit locations. The K-30’s AF algorithm has also been upgraded in all areas.
Live View focus peaking highlights in-focus surfaces for fast and highly accurate manual focus acquisition or precise autofocus confirmation. Burst capture is available at up to six frames/second and the camera boasts a 1/6000 second maximum shutter speed. Programmable front and rear e-dials provide easy customisation of camera controls and in-camera HDR shooting modes feature multiple blending options.
Pentax sensor-shift Shake and Dust Reduction technology ensures sharp, image stabilized, auto-levelled and dust-free imaging with any mounted lens. The K-30 is also rated for use in sub-freezing, wet, snowy winter conditions (-10C, 14F).
Other features include accurate 77 segment metering, ISO speeds up to 25600, a wide range of shooting modes (both traditional P/A/S/M and auto) and compatibility with both rechargeable Li-Ion and AA batteries (via optional AA battery holder).
