Panasonic has released details of a new Micro Four Thirds digital interchangeable standard zoom lens, the Lumix G X VARIO 12-35mm / F2.8 ASPH. / POWER O.I.S. (H-HS12035E), which goes on sale in July.

The optical design of the new lens comprises 14 lenses in 9 groups and includes an UED (Ultra Extra-Low Dispersion) element to minimise chromatic aberration plus a UHR (Ultra High Reflective) lens to ensure edge-to-edge sharpness. Four aspherical elements are used to reduce bulk and weight, resulting in an overall length of around 73.8 mm and a weight of  only 305 grams for high mobility.

Featuring a bright f/2.8 maximum aperture across the entire zoom range, it is an ideal general-purpose lens and suitable for photographing everything from landscapes to portraits. Compact for its class, the new lens features Nano Surface Coating to minimise ghosting and flare and a ring on the lens mount to exclude dust and moisture.

The built-in POWER O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) compensates for not only small, fast movements but also large, slow ones, making it ideal for low-light shooting. The inclusion of a stepping motor makes the focusing action smooth and silent for use in both photo and video recording. Internal focusing and zooming provides excellent resolution and contrast without changing its overall length from full life-size magnification to infinity. When mounted on Lumix G Micro System cameras, users can take advantage of the high-speed, high-precision Contrast AF system.

Seven blades give the aperture a rounded shape that produces a smooth defocus effect when shooting at larger aperture settings. The camera has a durable, reliable metal mount. Pricing will be announced closer to the release date. For more information, visit www.panasonic.com.au.
