June 14, 2011: Panasonic will release its latest G-series camera, the Lumix DMC-GF3, in August, with pricing to be announced closer to the launch date.
The smallest and lightest model in the range to date, the GF3 features a 12.1-megapixel Live MOS sensor and enhanced Venus Engine FHD image processor that enables the camera to support 1920 x 1080 Full HD video recording using the AVCHD format. The image processor is also designed to extend battery life. A variety of touch-control operations make playback quick, easy and more fun.

The new model is 16.7% smaller and 16.2% lighter than its predecessor and comes with a new control dial and button controls plus a touch-screen monitor that supports intuitive touch-control shooting. New shooting modes include ‘Creative Control’ settings for adjusting colours more intuitively and ‘Photo Style’ for finer control of contrast, sharpness, saturation and noise reduction.
The DMC-GF3 offers a precise and fast Contrast AF system, which lock on to subjects in under 0.2 second. Pinpoint AF allows even more precise focusing by magnifying the focusing area. It can be combined with touch-control focusing, which supports multi-area AF. The camera divides the 23 AF areas into nine groups. Simply touch one of the groups and the camera automatically selects the optimal area from within that group. Panasonic’s advanced AF system with full-time AF and tracking AF are available in movie mode.

A redesigned shutter in the new mount unit offers improved consecutive shooting up to 3.8 frames per second with full resolution. An advanced noise reduction system improves signal/noise ratio by around 3dB at ISO 3200 and ISO 6400. The GF3’s software bundle includes PHOTOfunSTUDIO 6.2 HD Edition for easy organisation of photos and videos, the SILKYPIX Developer Studio 3.1 SE for RAW file development and Super LoiloScope for high speed HD video editing (trial version).
