January 28, 2009: Panasonic released details of its 2009 range of Lumix digicams at a Global Seminar, which opened in Miami yesterday. The DMS-FT1 is a new concept camera geared for active outdoor photography. Waterproof to a depth of 3.0 metres, shockproof from falls up to 1.5 metre and dust-proof, it has a new 28mm wide-angle, 4.6x optical zoom lens and 12.1-megapixel resolution. It also supports AVCHD Lite video recording and includes Panasonic’s Venus Engine HD processor and iA (Intelligent Auto) mode. The DMC-FX550 features a 25mm ultra-wide angle Leica DC lens with 5x optical zoom and 12.1-megapixel resolution. It sports a 3.0-inch LCD touch-screen plus an enhanced hybrid control system that combines cursor key control with touch-screen operation. Users can make basic settings directly with the cursor key while they can adjust settings by touching or moving the slider on the screen. A new Venus Engine V processor boosts processing speed by approx. 2.4 times with its two CPUs and reduces power consumption. Similar specifications are offered in the super-slim Lumix 12.1-megapixel DMC-FX40, which sports a 25mm ultra-wide angle Leica DC lens with 5x optical zoom and Venus Engine V processor. This model has a 2.5-inch LCD with 230,000 dot resolution plus approximately 40MB of internal memory.
The new 12.1-megapixel DMC-FS25 is designed for simple point-and-press operation. It has a 29mm wide angle Leica DC lens with 5x optical zoom (equivalent to 29mm to 145mm on a 35mm film camera) and 3.0-inch LCD monitor. Panasonic’s iA (intelligent auto) mode has been enhanced with the addition of AF tracking and Intelligent Exposure functions.
