Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., which recently changed its name to Panasonic, will invest 94 billion Yen to expand its semiconductor production facility at its Tonami plant in Toyama Prefecture.

 

January 11, 2008: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. Ltd., which recently changed its name to Panasonic, will invest 94 billion Yen to expand its semiconductor production facility at its Tonami plant in Toyama Prefecture.
According to a report in the PMA International, Newsline, The new facility will produce image sensors for a range of appliances, including digital cameras, camcorders, broadcasting and medical imaging and in-vehicle devices. Construction is scheduled to begin in September, with production commencing in August 2009. Subsequently, the company will gradually increase its production capacity up to 30,000 wafers per month.
The new plant will be able to keep pace with developments in fine processing technology, allowing it to respond to rapid expansion in the digital camera and other imaging markets and concomitant demand for more sophisticated features and higher resolutions. It will employ local cleaning technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from the air conditioning systems in cleanrooms by 30% compared with the existing plant.
